UCLA’s Filipino language classes and the Pilipino Studies Minor are currently at risk! With Filipino intermediate classes already being cut and several course resources already being taken away, it is no longer guaranteed that Filipino language courses will continue to be offered at UCLA. There is no plan for what this means for the Pilipino Studies Minor, which is already facing low enrollment, support, and allocation of resources. Filipino language classes and the Pilipino Studies Minor exist only at UCLA because of many years of organizing and campaigning by the Filipino students and organizations. Now, with several attacks on accessible, pro-people, and culturally relevant education by the Trump administration, it is more important than ever for students to fight and take back our education.
1) Enroll in a Filipino language class! Introductory Filipino classes (FILIPINO 1) are currently open for enrollment for the Fall quarter. Want more options? UC students can enroll in online Filipino classes offered by UC Berkeley through UC Online.
